DNA Day 2013: April 25
04/23

See which NSTA visitors chose DNA as their favorite molecule in this photo album.

NHGRI's National DNA Day commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project and the discovery of DNA's double helix. It's also a day for students, teachers, and the public to learn more about genetics and genomics.
Celebrate by:
- Creating a paper model of DNA (available from PDB-101's Educational Resources)
- Visiting the National Human Genome Research Institute's DNA Day website for teaching tools, a chatroom, and webcasts
- Extracting DNA in your own kitchen (strawberries recommended; you can pound them in a plastic bag instead of using the blender)
- Reading the original 1953 publications relating to the discovery and learning about the scientists involved at NPG's Double Helix: 50 years of DNA
- Watching the NSF's Chalk Talk: DNA
- Exploring Molecule of the Month features on DNA, Designed DNA Crystal, DNA Polymerase, and more at PDB-101
- Spotting the nucleic acids in the video for Bjork's Hollow
